What is Estate Administration?

Estate administration is the process of dealing with a person’s legal and tax affairs as well as their assets once they have passed away.

All estates need to be administered in one way or another. This usually involves dealing with all their assets (e.g., property and personal possessions) and any liabilities (e.g., outstanding debts) before transferring whatever is left over to the beneficiaries.

If you are either the nominated executor in a will or the next of kin if there is no will, then you may need to think about the following:

  • Closing bank accounts and paying debts
  • Dealing with shares and investments
  • Redirecting post
  • Re-homing pets
  • Selling property and other assets
  • Dealing with inheritance tax
