What Is a Lasting Power of Attorney?
A Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) is a legal document that lets you appoint one or more people to help you make decisions on your behalf in the event that you’re not able to.
While the good news is that many of us are now living longer than ever before, we should all bear in mind that, as we get older, our mental capacity may diminish – through dementia, illness or accident.
So this is where we urge caution.
Many people assume that once we’re unable to look after our affairs, then those closest to us will simply take over and make important decisions about our finances and healthcare on our behalf.
However, without a Lasting Power of Attorney in place, then the whole process becomes considerably more complicated and the burden placed on loved ones can be both physically and mentally taxing. Do you really want that?
